Historic Wheelhouse Diner's Future in Limbo After Failed Mediation

At Quincy District Court, a mediation attempt between the Wheelhouse Diner's owner, LeeAnn McDonough, and Hancock Realty Trust LLC, led by Ciahua Chen, failed to resolve their eviction dispute, setting the stage for a trial on May 15. The controversy centers around the iconic 77-year-old diner located at 453 Hancock St., which Chen acquired in January 2023 for $1.5 million. Since the purchase, Chen has been attempting to evict McDonough, who has managed the diner for over a decade, to pave the way for a new multistory building project that would still include a diner on the ground floor but wouldn't commence for another three to five years.
