Quincy Fugitive Tuen Kit Lee Arrested in California

Tuen Kit Lee, known as the "Bad Breath Rapist," was captured in California after evading authorities for 16 years. Convicted of raping and kidnapping a woman in 2005, Lee fled Massachusetts in 2007. His arrest was the result of collaborative efforts by multiple law enforcement agencies. Lee was found living under an alias in a multi-million dollar home in Diablo, California.

Michelle Hanly Appointed as Quincy's New Director of Elder Services.

Mayor Thomas Koch has appointed Michelle Hanly, the city's current Recreation Director, as Quincy's new Director of Elder Services. Hanly will replace Thomas Clasby, Jr., who was recently terminated amid an ongoing investigation into financial irregularities within the department.

Hanly brings nearly 20 years of experience from the Recreation Division and has been praised for her successful expansion of programming and services. Clasby's dismissal comes after he was placed on paid leave on April 19, with the mayor citing "financial irregularities" and "fraudulent activity" as reasons for the termination. This is not the first time Clasby has faced misconduct allegations, having resigned from the board of Elder Housing Corp. in 2009 over conflict of interest policy violations.

City Councilor Noel DiBona Vies for Norfolk County Register of Deeds Position

Quincy Councilor-at-large Noel DiBona has announced his candidacy for Norfolk County Register of Deeds, challenging incumbent Democrat Bill O'Donnell, who has held the position for 20 years. DiBona brings extensive experience in public service and private sector management, having served on the Quincy City Council and School Committee and holding positions in the Norfolk County Registry of Deeds and Sheriff's Office. If elected, DiBona has pledged to modernize the registry and upgrade its information technology systems. He has confirmed that if his bid succeeds, he will complete his current term on the city council but will not seek reelection in 2025.

Two Quincy residents killed in head-on crash

Two people lost their lives in an early morning crash involving up to three vehicles on Interstate 93 southbound in Methuen, Massachusetts, according to state police. The accident occurred around 2:10 a.m. near Exit 43.

Preliminary investigations by state police suggest that a 2020 Toyota RAV4, driven by a 53-year-old Quincy resident, was traveling the wrong way—northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 93. This vehicle collided head-on with a 2021 Toyota Camry, driven by a 21-year-old Quincy resident, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the head-on collision, the Camry was hit by a third vehicle, whose driver was uninjured. The driver of the RAV4 was transported to a local hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

All three lanes of Interstate 93 southbound were closed for about three hours to allow for the investigation and crash recovery.

Stop & Shop to Close Underperforming Stores in the Northeast

Stop & Shop plans to close some underperforming stores in the Northeast, with decisions influenced by factors such as market position and store performance. Recently remodeled stores are less likely to close. The chain operates 397 stores, primarily in Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Rhode Island. The closures aim to ensure a stable future by focusing on core markets.
