Experience American History at the Dorothy Quincy Homestead Tours on June 15, 2024

The Dorothy Quincy Homestead, a remarkable example of American architectural and cultural history, will offer guided tours on Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 11 AM to 2 PM. This historic mansion, which served as the early seat of one of the nation's most influential families, provides a unique opportunity to step back in time and explore the rich history of the Quincy family.

Beginning with the settlement of Edmund Quincy I around 1635, five generations of the Quincy family left their mark on the property. The homestead was the childhood home of Dorothy Quincy Hancock, the first First Lady of Massachusetts and wife of John Hancock, who served as the president of the Second Continental Congress, the first signer of the Declaration of Independence, and the first governor of the Commonwealth.

The descendants of the Quincy family include notable figures such as Colonel John Quincy, after whom the City of Quincy was named, Abigail Smith Adams, wife of President John Adams and mother of President John Quincy Adams, and Josiah Quincy, a prominent lawyer and patriot. These individuals, along with many others, played significant roles in shaping the history of the United States.

Guided homestead tours will be conducted every 30 minutes, on the hour and half-hour. The tour costs $10.00 per person, and donations are welcome. The Quincy Homestead is located at 34 Butler Rd, Quincy, MA.

The Dorothy Quincy Homestead is owned by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation in partnership with the National Society of Colonial Dames of Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Cultural Council and the Quincy Art Council co-sponsor the program.

Don't miss this opportunity to explore the rich history of the Quincy family and their impact on American history. Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 15, 2024, and experience the Dorothy Quincy Homestead Tours firsthand.
